Only need to defend or rebalance if it runs too far in one direction. UVXY goes down so we can lean into that ultimate reality.

This is one of my more common high IV short sales where I buy one DOTM contract and sell 2 deeper OTM contracts against it. Max profit can be much high if we get lucky and pin $150 on May 29.

Small size so if this gets tested we can roll the single uncover contract out and up,

AMD Earnings Trade

My bet is that AMD beats and it runs higher and we keep $88

BTO 1x AMD 330p May8
STO 1x AMD 310p May22

Collecting $.88 (filled) with $20 of extra profit potential. Will be happy to take the long shares at $310 (13% lower) if it drops here.

Will close out this week if we have a profit of $.50 or more, otherwise (Plan B) I will be a long term AMD owner and sell Calls against long shares to work back to a profit though my break even will be $290.

May 6

Sold the long Put for $.15, raising the MaxProfit potential to $1.03.

Now we just keep an eye on our naked May22 310p and defend if needed. I’m seeing $3,400 in margin usage for the duration of this hold which equals 3% ROI for less than 3 week hold (which is below my annual target ROI pace)

May 13

Rolling AMD 310p May22 to 400p May15 $.36 credit
Grabbing a little more premium and moving expiration up a week to finish this trade early.

Max profit is now $1.39, brings the ROI to 4% for a 10 day hold which is now well above my 1.345% week target

May 14

Rolling AMD 400p May15 to 420p May15 $.63 credit
Getting more aggressive with the rally, raising the Max profit to $2.02

Selling a QQQ Put Spread for 5% in April

Here’s a trade I’m looking at for April while IV is still high.

The Setup:
Sell the QQQ 500/490 put spread for April 30 expiration. This collects roughly 5% on the width of the spread.

Why it works:
For this trade to lose money, QQQ would need to fall below 500 by April 30. That’s a 13% drop from current levels in a single calendar month.

What the data says:
We ran QQQ through our Probability Lab in monthly mode. Since 2008, QQQ has fallen 13% or more in a calendar month exactly once. One time in 17 years.

That means historically, this trade survives over 99% of months.

The math:

Max gain: ~5% of capital at risk
Max loss: spread width minus premium collected
Historical survival rate: 99%+ of months since 2008
Break-even: QQQ at $495.50 on April 30
